Group Project

Providing Relevant Course Information For Students

Created and redesigned features that help guide students to their next career goals.

Overview

Coursera partners with more than 250 leading universities and companies to bring flexible, affordable, job-relevant online learning to individuals and organizations worldwide. They offer their customers a range of learning opportunities from hands-on projects and courses to job-ready certificates and degree programs. My team explored ways to enhance their mobile experience. We learned that most customers use their desktops when taking online courses and use their mobile devices to get general course information. We aimed to redesign Coursera’s mobile app so users could easily find relevant information to choose the right course.

• Visual Design
• Wireframes
• Prototyping

Process

For this project, my team was responsible for creating a new feature and redesigning a current existing feature for an existing brand. We created a user interview plan to explore the customer's journey from finding a course to signing up. We were particularly interested in how users used their mobile devices in their journey. We learned that:1. Users use their mobile devices in order to research information on a class before signing up.  2. Users are interested in learning more about the class instructor and their credentials before committing to a course.

Exploration

We used our discoveries to inform multiple new layouts of the Coursera app. We experimented with the easiest way for users to get the information they needed to sign up for a course. I developed user flows to help me go through the user’s journey through the app. I used the flows to create wireframes, including new functionality that enabled users to:
• Browse and read reviews on any particular course.
• Find highly rated instructors.
• Understand which course offers a certificate or other course outcomes.

Usability Tests

We took our wireframes back to our interviewees to test the flows. 4 of 5 participants mentioned they would like to have more enrollment options. We decided to incorporate a new feature that allowed for annual, monthly and free subscriptions tiers.

Final Design

In our final design we focused on:
• Providing users with relevant information on any given course or instructors.           • Expanding on pricing options with detailed information on each subscription tier.           • Making more information available on Coursera’s mobile app.
